Kitesurfing
Kitesurfing is a well established watersport, its safety improved immeasurably since its pioneering days in the late nineties. Due to become an Olympic sport for 2024, we are proud to be the National Sailing Academy’s kitesurfing partner and will be teaching it in a very controlled and safe manner, well downwind of most recreational water-users in the harbour.

Learning Safely
The OTC is a British Kitesports (BKSA) accredited kitesurfing school, using their teaching models to progress riders safely and practically. Ratios are kept to a maximum of 2:1 so whilst taking tuition from our staff, you’ll have their full attention at all times.
Water-based tuition is conducted from RIB, taking clients well away from others, and providing the added security of rescue cover at all times. We use the latest kit, including a BBtalkin’ intercom system, so that our instructor is with their client(s) at all times, and can provide that extra bit of tuition at timely moments.

School and Courses
Kitesurfing is an eye-catching sport that has redefined how watersports are learnt today, proving that tuition not only accelerates the learning process, but ensures you learn in a safe manner for both yourself and other water users. Our tuition is provided by qualified BKSA instructors, with the water sessions based from a RIB, well downwind of other users. This not only gives you peace of mind that you won’t be getting in other people’s way, it also enables you to concentrate fully on the task in hand without any distractions.
Tuition ratios are kept to an absolute minimum to ensure you have the instructor’s undivided attention.
Cost: £59.00 per person
Entry level kitesurfing: 2 hours land-based, going through kite launching, landing and control.
Cost: £159.00
Entry level kitesurfing: 2 hours land-based and 3 hours water-based.
Price is based on 2:1 ratio. If one-to-one, there is a supplementary fee of £100.00.

FLYING BOTH KITE AND BOARD
Kitefoil Coaching
With kitefoiling-endorsed BKSA instructors on the team, we can now provide tuition on how to kitefoil. The flat water of Portland Harbour is an idyllic location to get your initial foiling flights and push your foiling progression. When all watersports are looking to foil, kitesurfing has stolen a march on the field, the industry witnessing the very latest developments. Lead by the British Kitesports teaching model, the coaching session is four hours long (including briefs and de-briefs), the price based on a 2:1 student to instructor ratio. If the session is one-to-one, there is a £100.00 supplement fee.
Topics Covered in a Session:
- Carrying and launching a foil.
- Manoeuvring in the water, recovery, board starts.
- Low level riding, wipeout control and injury mitigation.
- First flights, lift and height control.
- Sustaining flight and improved stance control.
- Downwind runs, transitions and power control.
- Advanced control, speed and transition development, including full foiling manoeuvres.

Duration: 4 Hours
Required Prerequisite Ability: The student can ride and transition on a surfboard competently.

Terms & Conditions
- Centre opening times are from 10.00am until late, at the OTC staff’s discretion.
- If booking online, please allow at least 72 hours in advance to be assured your desired date and time. If you book a session sooner, we may need to reschedule around existing bookings. A member of staff will be in touch if this is necessary.
- If you have pre-paid and booked a session that needs to be rearranged (due to adverse conditions, for example), we will aim to rearrange the session on a date convenient for you.
- If a gift voucher has been bought, the voucher is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. A gift voucher can not be refunded for its monetary value, and is only available for use within the OTC centre.
- No insurance is provided by The Official Test Centre, to cover the equipment whilst it is hired. We ask clients to treat the equipment with respect and adhere to the guidance of OTC staff. If a small amount of damage occurs whilst in use on the water, there will be no charge, but if an item of kit needs to be repaired as a result of damage that occurs whilst it is the responsibility of the client, the cost of the repair needs to be covered by the client. By renting equipment from the centre, and signing our Risk Statement, the client agrees to these terms.
- For intermediates and above, it is recommended that you bring your own wetsuit and harness.
- Before using The OTC’s equipment and services, we will clearly describe the safe sailing area, after which we waive responsibility for your actions. Rescue cover is provided and the sailing areas will be continually observed when clientele are on the water.
- We reserve the right to assess the sailing ability of each client before allowing them to use our equipment. If we deem their sailing is sub-standard, we are entitled to deny them use of our kit.
Other than booking online through this site, you can secure your place on a course at The OTC by pre-paying, using one of the following methods:
- Cheque drawn on a UK bank account in GBP (make cheques out to The Official Test Centre Ltd).
- Bank transfer to The Official Test Centre Ltd in GBP (Sort Code: 09-06-66 / Account No: 42362152).
- Credit Card payment in GBP.
- Debit Card payment in GBP (only valid for UK issued debit cards).

- Cover for damage to our equipment is not included in the advertised prices.
- If you are paying by credit card and your card is not a sterling card, your bank will convert the transaction to your currency – you may not receive the same exchange rate used by the OTC to convert the advertised GBP prices to EUR.
- If you choose to pay with a credit card your booking may be subject to 2% surcharge. We accept Visa, Mastercard and JCB. We regret that we are currently unable to accept American Express or Diners Club cards.
- If you pay with a UK debit card (Electron, Solo or Maestro) you will not be subject to a surcharge.
- If you choose to pay by a cheque in GBP drawn on a UK bank account or you transfer GBP to The Official Test Centre Ltd UK bank account you will not be subject to a surcharge.
